§ 17-24. Commercial vehicle routes; weight limits on city streets.

  • (a)

    Except as otherwise provided in this section, it shall be unlawful for any commercial vehicle or truck which has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than thirty-six thousand (36,000) pounds to travel upon the following streets or roadways within the city as described in this subsection: (i) Marietta Street; (ii) Florence Road; (iii) Powder Springs-Dallas Road; (iv) Austell-Powder Springs Road; (v) the Post Office Connector road; (vi) Old Lost Mountain Road between Sailors Parkway and Dallas Powder Springs Road; (vii) New Macland Road between Sailors Parkway and Marietta Street; (viii) Brownsville Road between Marietta Street and C.H. James Parkway; (ix) Powder Springs Road from Marietta Street to Sailors Parkway; (x) Siniard Street; (xi) Lindley Road; (xii) Atlanta Street from Old Austell Road to Lewis Road; (xiii) Old Austell Road between Frank Aiken Road and Atlanta Street; and (xiv) Oglesby Road from Brownsville Road to C.H. James Parkway.

    (b)

    It shall be unlawful for any commercial vehicle or truck which [has] a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than ten thousand (10,000) pounds to travel upon any street or roadway within the city, except as to those city streets and roadways described above in subsection (a) and as otherwise provided in this section.

    (c)

    The provisions of this Code section as outlined in subsections (a) and (b) above shall not apply to the following:

    (1)

    Regarding city streets and roadways, the following city streets and roadways shall have no GVWR weight restrictions:

    a.

    C.H. James Parkway (SR 6);

    b.

    Richard D. Sailors Parkway from C.H. James Parkway to Powder Springs Road;

    c.

    New Macland Road to the north of Sailors Parkway; and

    d.

    Powder Springs Road from Sailors Parkway to the city limits.

    (2)

    The GVWR weight restrictions as outlined in subsections (a) and (b) shall not be enforced against commercial vehicles or trucks traveling in the city to or from:

    a.

    Its terminal;

    b.

    An authorized parking lot;

    c.

    A repair garage;

    d.

    The headquarters of the commercial organization; or

    e.

    Places of pickup or delivery in the city; provided, however, that the commercial vehicle or truck shall ingress and egress to and from such places by the most direct route available from the nearest city street available with lawful weight limits in accordance with this section.
